Into a Regular Recovery Schedule

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006

So this blog posting thing hasn’t happened as frequently as I’d imagined it might! If it makes you feel any better, I do think about posting much more often than I actually have written. I must be busier than I thought I was.
Anyway, I was back at the cardiologist last week to check on some […]

Two Weeks of Work

Friday, November 3rd, 2006

Well, I’ve been back in the office for the last two weeks, and it seems to have gone well. I started driving again this week, which was an enjoyable milestone. You don’t realize how nice the “small” freedoms are until they’re taken away, I guess!
Anyway, I saw the cardiologist earlier this week, and he said […]

The Work (From Home) Week

Monday, October 16th, 2006

Well, I managed to work from home last week, and I’m planning to this week as well. My appetite and energy seem to be slowly increasing. Some random foods still taste strange or sound bad to begin with - mostly milk and sugary foods, it seems. Since I was a fan of both of those […]

An Uneventful Week

Saturday, October 7th, 2006

There wasn’t too much to write about this week. I spent most of it sitting around and sleeping, I think! We went to the cardiologist on Wednesday for a follow-up visit, and he said that aside from some lingering lung issues, everything looked to be progressing well. I go back for an echocardiogram on Monday […]

Thanks to All

Sunday, October 1st, 2006

Wow. What a week. I don’t think I can ever complain about going to work on Monday again!
Thanks to all of you for your thoughts, prayers, and comments here over the past week. It’s beyond nice to be home again, and perhaps even nicer to have the surgeon tell me that the operation went as […]

He’s Home!!!

Friday, September 29th, 2006

Jon was released from the Intensive Care Unit at Phoenix Children’s Hospital today. He went home, made it up the stairs without trouble, and rested. It’s been hard for him to get sleep at the hospital with the constant beeping and poking, so he’s happy to be resting peacefully! His lungs are still very tight […]

Thursday Hospital Update

Thursday, September 28th, 2006

Jon is doing well. He was up again for a little while today, but he tires easily. His current complaint is the shortness of breath. Both of his lungs were collapsed during surgery, and it will take some time to re-inflate them. He was given exercises to do to increase his lung capacity, but his […]

Taking Strides

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

Jon’s chest tube and heart defibrillators were removed today (Thin wires laid on top of the heart that extend out the chest wall so his heart could be jumped like a car battery if necessary). Without all of the tubes he was able to walk a lap around the ICU with our mom, which was […]

Recovering

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

Good evening, everybody! Jon’s breathing tube was removed late last night, which is of great comfort to him. His arterial line was also removed, so he’s just left with a chest tube (for drainage), a central line (for medications) and an IV (for basic fluids). He ate a little applesauce this afternoon and has been […]

Everything’s OK!!!

Monday, September 25th, 2006

Jonathan came out of surgery about 3:30, about 7 hours after they first started, and he’s doing ok! Dr. Teodori was not able to repair the valves, but he was able to remove an enlarged portion of the aorta so it is now normal sized, he moved Jon’s pulmonary valve to replace the faulty aortic […]
